The Fear Factor: How to Harness Fear as a Tool for Success
One of the greatest challenges in our life is our own “fear“. The lack of confidence doesn’t allow us to achieve our goals. Most of the time, this fear is acquired from our family and friends, and their way of life influences us. We often feel that we may not be able to do something or cannot achieve a particular goal. However, if we develop determination, strengthen our inner mental fortitude, and cultivate confidence in ourselves, then we can achieve it. We need to dream big and motivate ourselves with confidence. But having big dreams is not enough; we also need to take action and work towards them. Through these actions, we can develop confidence, and one day, we can achieve our dreams. It’s true that we may not always achieve these dreams, but through this process, we learn to have confidence in ourselves, and that is the main takeaway.
For my own journey, I am developing digital healthcare solutions. When I started my career, I lacked confidence. I thought healthcare was complex, with many privacy and security issues to consider. These concerns demoralized me, and I wasn’t confident. However, by observing senior managers, I realized they handled these issues smoothly. I learned many skills from my Japanese colleagues, observing their determination and their approach to engineering. I began incorporating these skills into myself, gradually eliminating the fear that had held me back. I developed confidence that if they could manage the system seamlessly, I could too.
Currently, I work as an Engineering Leader, but the skills I learned in Japan continue to motivate me and keep my fears at bay. I am now confident in managing the system. Whenever the business team presents new concepts and ideas, I always respond with confidence, saying, “Yes, we can do that.” I jot down these ideas in my notebook, create the engineering documents to build the solution, and lead my team in its development. If I had feared that I couldn’t do it, I wouldn’t have been able to build it. I’ve cultivated confidence in myself and have the assurance that our engineering team can accomplish it. Of course, meeting deadlines and budget constraints is always a challenge, but that’s part of the journey.
Another tip I’d like to share is that I often visualize the outcome of the things I plan to implement. I imagine the happy faces of our customers who will use the solution and visualize the sense of accomplishment when I achieve it.
In conclusion, it’s essential to overcome the fear that often blocks our path to success. We must dream big and work towards our goals with confidence. I hope today’s tips will be helpful to you.
